Sometimes when you try to hack your iPod Touch or iPhone, some things don’t work they way they should. That is why you will sometimes have to restore your device in order to start from scratch. It is also needed if you have a warranty and your device is physically broken like headphones don’t work etc….Since jailbreaking voids your waranty you will have to restore it. This is how you do it.

Make sure your device is connected to the computer

If you want to restore to the latest firmware version, just click on restore in the device menu.

If your device doesn’t respond and/or doesn’t turn on, put it in DFU mode. (When in DFU mode, nothing appears on the screen. That is normal. If ever you see an icon telling you to connect your device to iTunes, that is not DFU but restore mode.)

Hold the sleep and home button until the screen turns off and wait 2 seconds.

Let go of the sleep button but keep holding the home until your computer recognizes it and iTunes pops-up saying that your device needs a restore.

You can now either click on restore or Shift+Click on restore to select a firmware file (If ever you want to revert to an old firmware version)

Note: Restoring your device may make you loose all your files. It will also undo the jailbreak so you will have to rejailbreak after it has finished restoring. Make sure to backup your files so that you can put them back right after it has finished restoring.

If you get errors, make sure you have the latest version of itunes.
Try another firmware, maybe the on you are using is corrupted.

Difficulty – Extremely Easy |

There are many little things you can do with your iPod Touch or iPhone just by pressing the “Home” and “Power” buttons in a certain sequence. This can be useful do many things. This tutorial will show an array of tricks that will aid in debugging your device or simply saving an image or text.

Debugging tricks:

Has it ever happened that your device just froze, would not respond to any screen touches or button taps. Here are a couple tricks to save you from a panic attack:

Reboot: Hold Home and Power Button for about 10 seconds and release both buttons, this will restart your device and bring you back you the home screen like nothing ever happened.

DFU Mode: If your device is royally messed up and doesn’t even respond to restarting, here is what to do, plug your device to your computer, hold Home and Power button, until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then release the Power button. Continue to hold the Home button until your computer recognizes the device.

SBSettings provides you with numerous power options like “Respring” and “Safe Mode”. Respring can be useful when playing around with themes or system strings, instead of restarting the device. Safe Mode can be useful after a bad installation of a Cydia package, through Safe Mode, you can go back onto Cydia and remove the package causing problems, to get out of Safe Mode, tap the Status Bar.

Did you Know?:

You can take a screen shot of whatever it is you are doing by pressing Home and Power at the same time. The screen will flash white and then return to normal. You can do this, no matter what you are doing on your device, whether you are watching a video or just want to show off an awesome highscore to your friends. When you want to view the screenshots, just go to the Photos application.

Save a picture from an application or from the internet by pressing on the images and holding, a small menu will appear, giving you the options to “Save Image”, “Copy” or “Cancel”. Once again, if saved, go to Photos application to view. The “Copy” option will save the image location URL.

For quick access to your music, instead of leaving your application of unlocking your device, simply double tap the Home button to bring up a small window giving you the options to Play, Pause, Skip and return to Previous.

If have a bit of text you would like to copy, but it’s too long to rewrite, just press and hold on the text and wait for the word you are pressing on to highlight, then you can drag the blue lines from where you want the text to start and end, then just press copy. Now just open notes or mail, press in the dialog box(where you write), wait for the keyboard to appear and press again. Press paste and voila.

If you happen to be browsing an extremely long web page and now want to change websites, instead of swiping your finger downward until you reach the top, simply tap the status bar.

On the Videos application you can delete videos directly from your iPod simply swipe your finger across the file and a red “Delete button will appear, press it and poof it’s gone.

The advantage of having an iPod Touch or iPhone is the Appstore. The Appstore provides us with more than 100,000 apps for anything you need and want. It varies from games to productivity apps, from weather apps to medical apps and more. Unfortunately, it was promised that around 70% of the apps would be free but that didn’t happen. Most of the apps go from 0.99$ to 899.99$. Thankfully, hackers and crackers united so that if one person buys an app, he will be able to share it and make other users get it for free. There are many sites that offer these cracked .IPA files and a list will be provided at the end of this tutorial. In order to be able to get free games and apps, follow these steps.

What is the IPL Bootloader?

The iPod Bootloader is a menu that will let you access extra options on your iPod.

For example you can install iPodLinux, RockBox, iBoy, iGPSP, extra themes, Iarcnes and many others. When you install iPodLinux you automatically get a bootloader but the only options that come with it are

Apple OS (The original iPod operating System)

iPodLinux (Enables you to launch iPodLinux

Sleep (Puts your iPod in deep sleep. To turn on just press and hold menu + center)

Disk mode (Same as when you press and hold center + Play when the iPod is connected. Useful when your computer cannot find your iPod)

As I wrote earlier you can add even more options by editing the Bootloader file and here is how to do it.

Note this works with iPod Video 5G, 5.5G and Nano

Thank to an example of a loader.cfg file provided by Y2KCPI1 I will show you how to edit the file. The file is called loader.cfg and is located in the root of the iPod.

Make sure you installed iPodlinux

Make sure your iPod is plugged

Go to Start > my computer > “Your iPod”

Find the file name loader.cfg

Right-Click and open with Wordpad
