For this tutorial you will need your iPod Touch or iPhone and a computer with your favorite SSH client or a way to access your iPhone through USB (iPhonefolders)

1. Go on Cydia
2. On your computer go to /var/cache/apt/archives
   
3. Now you have to buy or download an app from Cydia
   
4. Once the Download is done and it displays “Running Debian Packager”; refresh the page on your computer
   
5. You will then see the name of the file you downloaded with a .deb extension
   
6. Just right-Click and save on your desktop
7. You can now upload the file to a file sharing website such as Mediafire

2. With your favorite SSH client, or by USB access of with iFile, Go to /usr/bin/
3. Drag and drop the script there
   
4. Make sure you have terminal downloaded from cydia
5. Open Terminal
6. Type su
   
7. and your password (It should be alpine by default unless you have changed it)
8. now simply type cyfix
   
9. It will prompt you to enter the repository link. Enter it and press enter
10. Let it do the delete and Voila you are done!
    

This is a guide explaining what to do to your status bar to make it as useful as possible.
Some of you may have already done this, or may think it is all pretty obvious to do. However this guide is mainly aimed at those would might not have realized everything or those are not as ‘jailbreak literate’.

[1] The first thing to do would be to create the maximum amount of space possible in the status bar.

At the start your status bar will look like this:

To make maximum space in the status bar, do the following:

1) Download ‘MakeItMine’ of Cydia:

This allows you to change your carrier name (in the top left). Having the carrier name is pretty useless.
And so after downloading MIM(MakeItMine) chance your carrier name to just a single space
After MIM your status bar should look like this:

2) Download off Cydia an application called ‘Battery Control’:

This app is a paid app with a trial. However i’m sure some of you will find a way to get it for free….:D
This app will allow you to change your battery to just a numeric value (e.g. 69) instead of the little symbol, the numerical value and the percentage sign ( e.g. 69% [=] )

Once this has been completed your phone should look like so:

3) The final thing to do is if you have a Winterboard theme (or just edit your info.plist) edit it like so:
- Find in the theme folder a file called info.plist
- Add to the file:

<key>TimeStyle</key>
<string>margin-left: 0px; padding-top:2px; font-size: Xpx; letter-spacing: .01em;</string>

Change ‘X’ to whatever number you want, the smaller the number, the smaller the size of the clock. I recommend around 12.

Make sure this is placed between the <plist version=”x.x”><dict> at the top
and the </dict></plist> at the bottom of the file.

This will change the time at the top of the screen to as small as you wish.

The info.plist should look like so:

[2] The next thing you want to do is add things to your status bar.

1) The first thing you will want to get (and almost all of you probably already have) is SBSettings off Cydia.
This will allow you to have multiple toggles (e.g. turning on and off 3G) from your status bar. Also another feature of SBSettings is that under the ‘more’ button you can add a few things to your status bar. For example you can have it show your available free memory, the date and a few more things.

2) The second and perhaps one of the most important things you will want to get is called ‘Status Notifier’ and it can be found on Cydia. Once again this app is a paid one, but yet again im sure many of your have your ‘ways’ of getting it for free. This is the app:

This app will allow you to have notifications in your status bar. For example you can set it to show a phone icon in your status bar when you have a missed call, an envelope when you have mail and a text bubble when you have a text.

Once StatusNotifier has been configured your status bar could/should look like this:

3) Another thing to add to the status bar is…. the weather
By downloading ‘Weathericon’ from Cydia (for free) you can have the weather show up in the status bar as either:
- Just the temperature,
- Just an icon (e.g. A picture of a sun if its sunny )
- Or both

Once you have downloaded this app, simply respring, go into your settings -> Weather Icon. Then under ‘Status Bar’ enable ‘show Image’ and/or ‘Show Temp’
By default Weather Icon uses the first place in the stock Weather app. However, this can be changed on this same page.

If all has been done correctly so far your status bar should look like so: NOTE: In this picture I do not have show image enabled, and so I have only the temperature.

4) Here are two more ways to increase the productivity of the status bar but they are sort of linked so I will do them together.
These two tweaks, available through Cydia are called ‘MusicBar’ and ‘MusicInfo’.

MusicBar allows you to control you music using the status bar. (All you do is touch the top left of your status bar and it changes to look like this:

PLEASE NOTE: This tweak will not work if you used MIM to remove your carrier. This is because it is activated by pressing your carrier on the status bar. Apologies.

Musicinfo allows you to see what song is playing (Your Status bar changes to display the song info for 5 Seconds when a song begins) It will look like this:

SSH is a mean of getting access to the internal files of your devices. You will be able to access these files from your computer, allowing you to edit strings, add your own themes to your device, add applications you’ve downloaded and much more. To do this, you will need to use an SFTP client of your choice, WinSCP(Windows), CyberDuck(Mac), iPhone Folders(Windows, no Wi-Fi required).

*Note: Before starting this tutorial, go to Cydia and download the “OpenSSH” package. Once done, restart your device and proceed with the tutorial.*

If you do not have any of these programs and do not know where to go to get them, here are the download links:

Download which ever program you like based on your operating system or if you have a Wi-Fi network or not.

Using WinSCP:

When you execute WinSCP, you will be presented with a window:

First you will need the IP address of you device, this can be found through Settings>Wi-Fi, once on this page, you may have multiple networks available, one of them has a check mark on the left, click on the blue arrow of that network. Your device’s IP address will be the first line of information.

Now write that in the box entitled “Host Name”

Then, in the “User Name” box, enter “root”

Now, the default password for any iPod touch or iPhone is “alpine”, unless you changed this password as showed in How to Change the Default SSH Password, it will always be the password.

Once you have followed these steps, click “Login”, a smaller screen will appear with a bunch of text really isn’t important, at the bottom you will be given a few options of what you would like to do, just click yes.

There, you now have access to your devices internal files the screen should look like this

Using CyberDuck:

It is basically the same concept as WinSCP, you are presented with this screen

To connect to your device, you will need to open a connection, which is the button on the top left of the window.

Then repeat the same steps as WinSCP, enter IP address, enter Username, enter Password and click “Connect”

Do not forget to select your connection type, at the top of this small window, is a drop down menu, click on it and select “SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)”

Once connected you will be brought to “/private/var/root”

Where we want to go is the core, where you can access almost everything. To do so, click on the small arrow pointing upward, beside the folder name, this will bring you to “/private/var”.

Here is where to go if you want to access:

Themes: “/var/stash/Themes.xxxxxx”

AppStore Applications: “/var/mobile/Applications”

Default and Cydia Applications: “/Applications” or /var/stash/Applications.xxxxxx”

There are many more directories that let you access many more things, but as you progress the difficulty will escalate and the danger of messing up your device will be greater. More of these directories will be shown in other tutorials and upon request.

The advantage of having an iPod Touch or iPhone is the Appstore. The Appstore provides us with more than 100,000 apps for anything you need and want. It varies from games to productivity apps, from weather apps to medical apps and more. Unfortunately, it was promised that around 70% of the apps would be free but that didn’t happen. Most of the apps go from 0.99$ to 899.99$. Thankfully, hackers and crackers united so that if one person buys an app, he will be able to share it and make other users get it for free. There are many sites that offer these cracked .IPA files and a list will be provided at the end of this tutorial. In order to be able to get free games and apps, follow these steps.

For iPod 1G, 2G and iPhone 1G, 2G and 3G. If you have 3G iPod or iPhone 3GS Click here

1. Assuming that you have already jailbroken your device, Go to Cydia



2. Go to the “Manage” tab
3. Select “Sources”



4. On the top right select “Edit” and then select the “Add” button




5. Write on the new prompt exactly as it is written here: http://cydia.install0us.com



6. Wait until the source is added to cydia
7. Go to the “Changes” tab and you will see something like this.



8. Select the “iphone.org.hk” Source package and “Install it”
   1. To Install select the package
   2. On the top right of the screen select “Install”

   

   3. A new page will come up and select “Confirm”

   

9. Once the source has finish loading, go back to the “Changes” tab and you will see something like this



10. Scroll through the packages and find Installd Patch.



11. Select Installd Patch and Install it. (Same steps as 8.1 to 8.3)
12. Once it has finished installing, REBOOT your device (This step is important)
13. Once your device rebooted, go back on cydia then on the search tab and search for install0us ( it’s a zero and not the letter “o”)



14. Install install0us (Steps 8.1 to 8.3)
15. When it is done go back to the springboard (Main Screen)

If you have a iPod 3G or iPhone 3GS please follow these steps.
1. Do steps 1 to 6 but add http://cydia.hackulo.us instead of cydia.install0us.com
2. Go to the changes tab and scroll until you find AppSync Important: Make sure it says AppSync for OS 3.1
3. Install AppSync and make sure to REBOOT your device (Steps 8.1 to 8.3 on previous tutorial)
4. Continue with steps 13 through 16
