In this tutorial I will teach you how to install menu icons on your iPod to make it look even cooler than what it looks like now.

1. Download the icon set ( inverted or not )

2. Save the file somwhere you will remember
3. In the left drop down menu called “Edit Mode:” select “iPod” and click on “Load iPod Firmware”



4. Click on the “Fonts” tab and go to the far right side and click on “OTF Fonts”



5. In the drop down menu select index number “1″ and on the far right side click on “Load Font”.



6. Find the font in the zip file you have downloaded at the beginning of this tutorial, it should be called Podium SansRegular. Just select it
7. Click on the “Strings” tab. Then in the dropdown menu select 24 for the english language.



8. Click on the “Load List” Button



9. Navigate to the place where you downloaded the .zip file and double click on the menu icons list.txt file from the begining of this tutorial
10. This message should pop-up



11. You are now done. click on “Write” and then “eject”

This tutorial will show you how to center all the Menu Text on your iPod.

1. Open up iPodWizard
2. Load your iPod firmware



3. Go into the layout tab and select “font types” in the resources drop down menu



4. Now in the search bar, search for this value and click on find: 24222



5. Make sure the Hex checkbox is checked



6. Click under the text align column to where it says: 0×0
7. In the Change Value Box, type: 01 and click on change value



8. Now in the search bar, search for this value and click on find: 24225



9. Click under the text align column to where it says: 0×2 (Refer to number 3 in the last picture)
10. Make sure the Hex Box is still checked. If it isn’t, check the box.



11. In the Change Value Box, type: 01 and click on Change Value



12. You are now done you can continue editing or just click on “Write” and then “eject”

Now all of your Menus should be Centered!

This hack will enable you to have many different themes just by rebooting and selecting your theme in the bootloader menu.

Warning: This tutorial is for people who understand all the basics of iPod Modding and know what they are doing. If you do not understand what it written in this tutorial, Do no try it. Thank you

CAUTION: Make sure you have the original iPod Video firmware without a bootloader. You can download the firmware here

To extract the firmware file just rename the .ipsw to .zip and extract it

**Do Not Include the Quotes!**

1. Go to start > My computer > Your Harddrive (C:\)
2. Create a folder in C:\ called “ipod” (if you don’t put this in this exact folder, you’ll have to modify the location of the folder at the C step with the “cd” command)
3. You Have To Have These Files (Download To Above Folder)
   1. ipod_fw.exe
   2. iPodPatcher.exe
4. Open iPodWizard, load your (Can be Custom or the original) ipod firmware and then make the changes you want. (Strings, pictures etc)
5. Press Write to iPod
6. Open a Command Prompt (Go to Start, Run, And Type cmd)
7. In the command prompt you opened, navigate to the folder where you downloaded iPodPatcher.exe by using the “cd” command.

A. Type “cd..” Press Enter (don't forget the 2 dots)
B. And Continue Typing “cd..” Until It Says Only “C:\”
C. Then Type “cd ipod”

8. Make sure your iPod is still connected, then type “ipodpatcher 0″ into CMD. If nothing appears, change the 0 to 1, 2, 3, 4… ipodpatcher.exe should launch in an other DOS window, close it.



9. Remember the number that you used (It should be between 0-6)
10. Type “ipodpatcher.exe YOURNUMBER -r Bootpartition.bin” in your first window.(Will Take A While)



11. Type “ipod_fw.exe -o apple_os.bin -e o bootpartition.bin” (those are o, not zeros)
12. This Will Create a file named “apple_os.bin”. Its the file with the theme in it. It will also create “bootpartition.bin”.
13. Delete the “bootpartition.bin. Both files will be in the “C:\ipod” directory.
14. Copy “apple_os.bin” to the root of your iPod



15. Repeat step 3 to 12, but each time on Step 11 just add a number after “apple(1,2,3).bin”

-Important: The other files you will make cannot have more than 8 characters and the extension cannot be longer than 3 characters. For example eight_88.bin
-Make sure that you use a clean updater each time you modify your theme, or else the previous theme may “leak through”.
-Also make sure that you delete the “booloader.bin” file after “apple_os.bin” is extracted, or else it will interfere with the following themes.

16. Install the iPodLinux Bootloader.
17. Open the loader.cfg file in your iPod root
18. After The “Apple OS @ osos” line, add

Theme 1 @ (hd0,1)/apple_os.bin OR Theme 1 @ (hd0,1)/Themes/apple_os.bin
Theme 2 @ (hd0,1)/apple_os(1).bin OR Theme 2 @ (hd0,1)/Themes/apple(1).bin
Etcetera . . .


So, your loader can look like this :

This tutorial will show you how to Change the boot logo on your iPod Video (The apple logo when your iPod boots)

Note: If you have a bootloader, it might not work because you might not be able to find the apple logo in the firmware.
Also some custom firmwares may not have boot logos for you to change. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do.

Alright

1. Download iPodWizard 1.3
2. Load your iPod firmware by going on the dropdown menu on the top left and selecting ipod then load firmware.



3. Go to the pictures Tab
4. Select the picture numbered 413



5. Now find an boot logo that you like. (make sure the image size is 62px in width * 78px in height)

For this example we are going to use this one


6. Now go back to iPodWizard and load the image by click on Load Bitmap



7. Find the image you chose and press on Open
8. Now go to the Preferences tab and select “Reflash iPod firmware upon boot picture change”



9. Press write then on eject and you are done!
   

   Note: iPodWizard might freeze. If it does, follow these steps

   1. Wait about 1 or 2 minutes
   2. Close iPodWizard
   3. Unplug your iPod
   4. Plug it back, your iPod is going to be reflashing

   And you are done!

There are two iPod Nes emulators The first one is called iNes and the other is called iDarcnes

Since the iNes development is discontinued and the previous releases really had a lot of problems,I will not write a tutorial on how to install since iDarcnes can play more ROMs and at a faster speed. If ever there are request for iNes I will post a tutorial.

To install iDarcnes you will need the ipodLinux bootloader which can be found here

Installing iDarcnes

1. Get the latest (Stable) iDarcnes binary file + two included ROMs (Super Mario bros 3 and Megaman).
2. Save the zip file somewhere you will remember (Desktop recommended)
3. Go to Start > My computer > “Your iPod”
4. Put the iDarcnes file  in the iPod root. The file given in the zip archive is the most stable up to date release of iDarcnes
5. In your iPod root make a folder called “roms”



6. Inside the zip file you have just downloaded there are two ROMs. Place those two inside the “roms” folder previously created
   1. You can search on google for more .nes ROMs
   2. Place the downloaded ROMs inside the “roms” folder in your iPod root
7. We are going to edit the loader.cfg file(If you need help with the bootloader visit this link to clear things up)

The only disadvantage of iDarcnes is that it does not have a menu for us to select a rom on the fly therefore for every game you want to play you will have to add an extra line of code to make that ROM launch-able

• The basic line to add looks like this : Romname @ (hd0,1)/linux.bin /mnt/idarcnes /mnt/roms/romname.nes

Let’s use the ROMs I provided. We will use the super Mario bros(SMB3.nes file). You will write in the bootloader something like this

• Super Mario 3 @ (hd0,1)/linux.bin /mnt/idarcnes /mnt/roms/SMB3.nes



8. Save the loader.cfg file
9. Reboot the iPod
10. Select the ROM and wait 30 seconds for the emulator to load

If it doesn’t work, there might be 3 reasons why:

1. You did not put the rom inside the roms folder
2. The rom you are trying to play may be not supported at the moment
3. In the loader.cfg file try changing /linux.bin to /Kernel.bin

4. Go to the “Layout” tab and make sure “Scheme Layout” is selected



5. Click on ‘Load all’ and select the selector bar folder you want and click on OK

Texas Hold ‘em Cheats:

1. Go to the “Options” menu and select “New Player”
2. Enter the cheat code you wish to use.
3. Go to the check-mark button and hold down the iPod’s center button.
4. The word “Secret” will appear across the screen.

YOUCHEAT – Brings up a secret menu that gives you 5 cheating options

1. Unlock all tournaments
2. Start with 100k
3. Always show tells
4. Show down cards
5. Adjusting the “All Fold” to often, normal or never.

ALLCHARS – Allows you to see secret characters

BARTUNES – iTunes bar interface

THREEAMI – Apple conference room interface

BIGROCKS – Stonehenge tournament

PLAYDOGS – Tournament with dogs

SPACEACE – Futuristic tournament with aliens.

Vortex Cheats:

1. Exit all games and go to the main menu of the game
2. Go to the “Personal Info” tab
3. Select “Rename” and type in one of the codes below.
4. Hold down the center button until the cheat activates. A “Cheat On” message should appear

Note: The underscores in the codes below stand for spaces

In this tutorial, you will find out how to change your iPod video font color.

Requirements:

1. iPod video with firmware 1.2.1
2. The perfect background hack
3. iPodwizard 1.3.

1. Assuming that you already installed the perfect background hack, open iPodwizard and on the dropdown menu on the left, choose “ipod” then click on “load ipod firmware” button.



2. Now go in the “Layout” tab and in the drop down menu called “Resource Type” select “Font types”



3. Now in the search bar, search for these values 24222, 24223, 24224, 24225 (P.S.: These are only the important ones. For more options please scroll down)
4. Once you have search for one, on the right box in iPodwizard, double-click on the “Value” of “RGB Color” it should look like “0xff000000″.



5. You will now be able to select the color with a color palette. Once you are done selecting the color click on OK



6. Now search the rest of the values and repeat step 3 to 5
7. Now that you have edited all the important ones, you have two choices. Finish up, write to ipod and eject or continue with the other resources to modify the lyric menu font color and others

In this tutorial I will teach you the basics of modding an iPod. This includes changing the graphics, changing the fonts and changing the Strings(Every single word written in your iPod)

Change your iPod’s Graphics

1. Download iPodwizard 1.3
2. In the left drop down menu called “Edit Mode:” select “iPod” and click on “Load iPod Firmware”



3. In the pictures tab, you can scroll through the pictures and edit the ones you want with Photoshop. Make sure that the pictures are the same sizes
4. To load a single pic, you just have to click on “Load Bitmap” and select the picture you modified.



5. To load a full downloaded theme, just press on “Load All” and select the folder where all the pictures are contained



6. When you are done modifying the picture, just press write and wait until its finished and eject!

Change your iPod’s font

1. Download iPodwizard 1.3
2. In the left drop down menu called “Edit Mode:” select “iPod” and click on “Load iPod Firmware”

4. In the drop down menu select index number “1″ and on the far right side click on make font.



5. Select the font you want and the size and press ok. The best size is between 15 and 18



6. If you are done you can just continue editing your iPod or just click on “write” and eject the iPod

Change your strings (The Text in your iPod)

1. Download iPodwizard 1.3
2. In the left drop down menu called “Edit Mode:” select “iPod” and click on “Load iPod Firmware”



3. Click on the “strings” tab. Then in the dropdown menu select 24 for the english language.



4. You can now search a text you want an click on “Find” (IE: Do not disconnect)



5. When you find the text you want, right under the search bar type the text YOU want and click on “Change String”



6. You can also scroll through the list then click on the text you want and edit it.
7. You are now done you can continue editing or just click on “Write” and then “eject”

This will install the perfect background hack on your iPod

Features:

1. The Solitaire Background is now fixed ( the solid green background is back!)
2. The stopwatch and the lock background is now back and fixed (brushed metal!)
3. The 4-bit color font change is now included!
4. The white squares in the legal section are now fixed!
5. The white frame at the bottom of now playing is now fixed!

7. It well never reboot by itself!
8. The themes are interchangeable. (5G to 5.5G and vice-versa)

There are some extra resources that you can add yourself later on

1. Remove Solitaire Background (replaces with the normal background).
2. Remove Stopwatch Background (replaces with the normal background).
3. Remove Screenlock Background (replaces with the normal background).
4. Remove the titlebar

How to install

1. Download the Firmware to somewhere you will remember (Desktop preferred)

For 5G Video: The New Firmware Update 1.2.2

For 5.5G Video: The New Firmware Update 1.2.2

2. Make sure your iPod is plugged to your computer
3. Open iPodWizard (right-click + run as administrator if on Vista or 7)
4. Open iPodwizard and in the dropdown menu select “firmware” then select “Load firmware” And select the firmware.



5. Modify what you want IE: Themes, Font color, Strings, Resources etc.
6. When you are done, just click on “write to iPod” and wait until it finishes writing the firmware on your iPod
7. When its done, just click on the eject button and wait until it reboots!

Note: When installing these firmwares, it might delete the Bootloader. You might have to install it again
