With this tutorial You will be able to see the album art of the song that is playing in all the menus

Requirements: iPod Nano with firmware 1.3.1

1. Load your iPod firmware. (Make sure your firmware is version 1.3.1)



2. Now you have to go to layout tab and make sure “Scheme Layout” is selected.



3. Search in the find box the resource number 24079 (Refer to number 1 on the next picture)



4. Click on the ID of the first resource (Refer to number 4 in the previous picture)
   1. For small album art, change the value to -300
   2. For large, change it to 25514

   
   

5. Now all you have to do is write to your iPod and  eject

You now have small/large album art for all the menus!!

1. Assuming that you already installed the perfect background hack, Open iPodwizard and on on the dropdown menu on the left, choose “ipod” then click on “load ipod firmware” button.



2. Now go in the “Layout” tab and in the drop down menu called “Resource Type” select “Font types”



3. Now in the search bar, search for these values 24209, 24210 and 24211.
4. Once you have search for one, on the right box in iPodwizard, double-click on the “Value” of “RGB Color” it should look like “0xff000000″. (Refer to number 3 on the next picture)



5. You will now be able to select the color with a color palette. Once you are done selecting the color click on OK



6. Now search the rest of the values and repeat step 3 to 5
7. You are now done. Click on “Write” and “Eject” your iPod

Features:

1. The Solitaire Background is now fixed ( The solid green background is back!)
2. The stopwatch and the lock background is now back and fixed (brushed metal!)
3. The 4-bit color font change is now included!
4. The white squares in the legal section are now fixed!
5. The white frame at the bottom of now playing is now fixed!
6. The titlebar will now be placed good
7. It will never reboot by itself!

There are some extra resources that you can add yourself later on

1. Remove Solitaire Background (replaces with the normal background).
2. Remove Stopwatch Background (replaces with the normal background).
3. Remove Screenlock Background (replaces with the normal background).

How to install:

1. Download the firmware and extract it to your desktop
2. Open iPodwizard and in the dropdown menu select “firmware” then select “Load firmware” and select the firmware.



3. Now modify what you want. For example: Themes, Font color, Strings, Resources etc.
4. You are now done. click on “Write” and then “eject”

Other PS: when installing these firmware, it might delete the bootloader. So you will have to install it again

How to add multiple background

24322 is the default background picture at index 140, which you have to edit and add the second background at the right left corner.
14015 is the clock (?) at index 7. You have to load your now playing background there.
It will add this missing corner.

Now you have to edit left, top and right values to get these images to right place

# Select ID 24322
# Scroll this window to right, so you could see “left”, “top” and “right” values.
# Click on 83 and change it to -144. It is the left value. (It means how many pixels from left side of the screen)
# Click on 6 and change it to -126. It is the top value.
# Scroll back, select ID 14015
# Scroll this window to right, so you could see “left”, “top” and “right” values.
# Click on 0 (top value) and change it to -23
# Click on -7 (right value) and change it to -144
# Open Pictures tab
# Load your backgrounds to Index 140
# Load now playing background to Index 7
# Press write to iPod button, eject and enjoy!

What is the IPL Bootloader?

The iPod Bootloader is a menu that will let you access extra options on your iPod.

For example you can install iPodLinux, RockBox, iBoy, iGPSP, extra themes, Iarcnes and many others. When you install iPodLinux you automatically get a bootloader but the only options that come with it are

1. Apple  OS (The original iPod operating System)
2. iPodLinux (Enables you to launch iPodLinux
3. Sleep (Puts your iPod in deep sleep. To turn on just press and hold menu + center)
4. Disk mode  (Same as when you press and hold center + Play when the iPod is connected. Useful when your computer cannot find your iPod)

As I wrote earlier you can add even more options by editing the Bootloader file and here is how to do it.

Note this works with iPod Video 5G, 5.5G and Nano

Thank to an example of a loader.cfg file provided by Y2KCPI1 I will show you how to edit the file. The file is called loader.cfg and is located in the root of the iPod.

1. Make sure you installed iPodlinux
2. Make sure your iPod is plugged
3. Go to Start > my computer > “Your iPod”
4. Find the file name loader.cfg
5. Right-Click and open with Wordpad

You will see something like this:

6. To add another menu option you must put the code in a new line

Note: All the menu choices for iPodLinux, Rockbox, iBoy, IArcnes etc are given in each of the respective tutorials.

default = 1 (Which One It Chooses If No Response)

Extra Settings (These Are Not Required)

debug (To Debug Differnent Settings)

• 1 – print messages to screen and pause for a few seconds before the menu appears or an image is started.
• 2 – print messages to screen and wait for a keypress before the menu appears or an image is started.
• 4 – print messages to screen and pause for a second after each printed line.
• 8 – lines counting from 1 to 15 will be printed. This is to test the scroll feature (see below) .
• 16 – to show a test screen in which you can adjust the contrast, turn backlight on/off and test the keys.

contrast = 0 (The Contrast Used For The Menu Screen It Goes From -10 to +10)

How To Set Colors >> Provide Numbers From 0 – 255 For The Three Colors

bg_color = (red,green,blue) (Menu Background Color)

• (Default is (0,255,128)

hilight_color = (red,green,blue) (Menu Hilight & Selector Color)

• (Default is (128,128,0)

bg_gradient = 1 (To Have A Gradient BG Ranging From Black To The bg_color To Have A Plain Background Just Put 0)

• (Default is (1)

beep_duration 50ms (The Duration Of The Click (Has To Be In milliseconds(1/1000))

beep_period 30 (The Pitch Of The Beep (Could Go From 20 To 40))

This tutorial will show you how to Change the boot logo on your iPod Nano 1st gen!  (The apple logo when your iPod boots)

If you have a bootloader, it might not work because you might not be able to find the apple logo in the firmware.

Alright

1. Download iPodWizard 1.3
2. Load your iPod firmware by going on the dropdown menu on the top left and selecting ipod then load firmware.



3. Go to the pictures Tab
4. Select the picture numbered 283



5. Now find an boot logo that you like. (make sure the image size is 62px in width * 78px in height)

For this example we are going to use this one


6. Now go back to iPodWizard and load the image by click on Load Bitmap



7. Find the image you chose and press on Open
8. Now go to the Preferences tab and select “Reflash iPod firmware upon boot picture change”



9. Press write then on eject and you are done!
   

   Note: iPodWizard might freeze. If it does, follow these steps

   1. Wait about 1 or 2 minutes
   2. Close iPodWizard
   3. Unplug your iPod
   4. Plug it back, your iPod is going to be reflashing

   And you are done!
